Our chickens, both laying and for meat, start out as chicks with a mixture from a local co-op feed mill specially formulated for our needs. Like all our feed, it is free of soy, animal by-products, medications, and hormones. After three weeks they move to a farm-ground feed of barley, wheat, green peas, some alfalfa, and a mineral supplement.
During the warm season the chickens are free to run outside in the day. At night they sleep on straw in the barn, where they have ample room to move around comfortably. Our butcher is Lakeland Poultry Processors in St. Paul, where they operate with a strong commitment to food safety and quality.
